Happy Feet (Full Screen Edition)

It's a visually dazzling marvel that pulls out all the stops to wow its viewers, but despite its crowd-pleasing ploys, it holds onto its integrity with a smart and surprisingly deep story, according to The A.V. Club's Tasha Robinson. In a year rich with animation options, Happy Feet stands head and shoulders above its competition, as noted by Peter Debruge of the Miami Herald. The film marks a successful animated debut from the makers of Babe, with a thoughtful storyline and catchy musical numbers, as mentioned by Rotten Tomatoes.

The DVD includes two new animated sequences that are not incorporated into the film. One is a half-minute hackysack-themed bit, while the other is a good-looking, two-minute scene featuring the late Steve Irwin as an albatross, who, with Mumble, encounters a blue whale. "Dance Like a Penguin: Stomp to the Beat" is hosted by Savion Glover, whose dancing was motion-captured for the film, but aside from a couple of basic tips, it's mostly a demonstration rather than a lesson.

In addition to the two music videos (Gia's "Hit Me Up" and Prince's "The Song of the Heart"), the DVD also includes "I Love to Singa," a 1936 Merrie Melodies cartoon that is appropriately matched, in which a young owl ruffles feathers by wanting to sing jazz for his classical-music-loving family, as noted by David Horiuchi.
